Introduction:
Leadership and management
are two such terms that making sense of them has always been a challenge for
anyone who tries to understand them. Both terms are widely used in
organizations and if a person has to play both the roles, then it is most
difficult for that particular person to keep a balance between the two. Though both these concepts go hand in hand, yet it doesn’t mean that both of them can
be considered one and the same. So let us make a good comparison between the
two and find out what both the concepts are and their functions.
The Uiuc iMBA program is organized into packages referred to officially as specializations that cover disciplines like economics, finance, leadership, management, and strategy. Comparison between leadership and management:
The below table is enough
for you to understand the difference between the two.
Leadership |
Management |
Leadership
means to act as if you are in control and have to take care of all the things being done in an organization. How to control a particular team or group and make them do work. Communicating properly with every member and give them the impression that they have to keep you updated etc are a part of this job. |
Management
on the other side is not that different from leadership. But these concepts mean that you as a manager has to deal with people and get them to do the work properly. Whether you have to manage a small-scale organization or large-scale, the definition of management stays the same. |
As
a leader, you can’t sit idle. Meaning, no one is going to come and tell you what to do instead you have to make a plan and get everyone to speed. It is you, who has to chase evolution and make things work for everyone. |
As
a manager, you know what everyone has to do and what the situation of your organization is and you just have to maintain it. |
Being
a leader, it is in your genes to never get satisfied with what you and your team are already doing. Instead, you would want to reach for the stars. |
But
as a manager, you wouldn’t want to change the pattern and do something out of the box. And you’ll just stay obsessed with the bottom line without having any desire to move forward. |
A successful leader is the one who would ever get scared of doing anything and will always do the right thing, make right decisions. |
Contrary,
a manager focuses on doing things the right way. Whatever the work he’s doing or is making others do, his focus will be whether the task is done the right way or not. |
A good leader will never accept things the way they are. Instead, they would do anything to make it more appropriate or profitable. Thus they are the game-changers. |
Being
a manager, your focus wouldn’t be on why a particular thing is to be done this way and not the other way round. Instead, they will accept things exactly the way they are. |
Leadership
is all about looking at the future. As a leader, you will always think of the projects that can benefit you in the long run. That is, a leader always looks to the future and make reforms that can make the future brighter. |
But
as a manager, you are only interested in what is happening in the short run.
You won’t be working on anything that can give you benefit in the long run but is only focused on what is being done in the present. |
As you can see, both the terms may look like as they are
the same but in reality, are two different concepts that have different meanings.
Leaders concentrate on people whereas managers focus on the system. Manager in only
interested in when and how but the leader is also interested in what and why.
Similarly, the root of management controls, whereas leadership is nurtured by the trust. Thus these and many other differences can help us understand the role of
a leader and a manager in any organization. But our tip here is if you wish to
get by successfully these days then combine the roles of both leadership and
management. Only then, you will be able to successfully walk out of this
situation. As you know the university of Illinois imba rank 30 worldwide So take this course team written a blog on growing trends of an online MBA this blog is worth reading.
